End of an era?
So, this is it. The end of an era. Or so it would seem...
The Rising Sun in Epsom, a place so close to our hearts and minds is about to enter the ethereal realms of history.
So why is this place so beloved of it's creators and patrons? Is it the beer? is it the atmosphere? is it the warmth and tolerant sphere of influence that Ruth and Dave have created?
Perhaps it is one or all of these things. Perhaps it is none. What is apparent is that they have created a unique and very particular style of local pub that is welcoming and friendly to everyone who is willing to be a part of an open minded group of individuals who love beer, independence, variation and quirkiness.
We don't want static chain beers that are available elsewhere in Epsom. We want to be able to have a choice and enjoy a beer from Belgium, Germany, the USA, France, the UK, as long as they are fine and well made.
Dave Roberts brews excellent beer. More importantly he knows what great beer is and will go to great lengths to bring it to the riser. That is the difference. That is what we are fighting for.
To enjoy quality produce from a local producer and diversity from his knowledge of global beers and brewers.
We have to fight to keep this independence of spirit otherwise it will break our community spirit, of which the riser is the heart.

Hi Martin,
I don't know if we've ever met but I'm a regular at the riser too. I'm saddened by the news that we might loose our favorite pub. I've started an online petiton, using some of your words and linking to your site too.

Cheers,

Hi Nick,
We have an official one online now. Thanks for your support, but it would be best if we can use that one as it will make the collation of information simpler for us. Watch this page for more info. News and updates.
Hi Martin,
I'm not a regular at the Riser but I have been going there for a number of years now and I'm quite shocked by the whole situation.
I've already signed the petition in the pub and forwarded the blog's details to my friends/colleagues who also go there.
Let us know if there's anything else that we can do.
Cheers
Alex
What a shock! I found out an hour ago via email from a mate who lives in Warrington! We live in Epsom town centre, which would be a dessert without The Rising Sun!
